Creative Leicestershire Support for SMEs

Tue 4th April, 2017 by Leicestershire County Council

Creative Leicestershire works to develop new and existing small creative businesses across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, principally in arts, media and design.

The majority of local creative SMEs are micro businesses with fewer than ten employees. CL supports them by providing access to a range of advice and support in order to help them survive and grow. Its programme is a vital catalyst connecting people through networking opportunities, strengthening supply chains and retaining knowledge in the cluster. CL offers specialist one to one advice and business development support, training opportunities, workshops and showcases artists’ work through its online and printed directory. Over the 12 years since it began, CL has made a significant contribution to developing the creative sector in the sub-region and is the go-to resource for small creative businesses. CL has worked closely with Leicester City Council initiatives for the creative economy, including the Leicester Creative Business (LCB) Depot, Phoenix Square and Makers Yard. In the County it has supported creative clusters in Hinckley and in Loughborough, as well as running programmes in partnership with the three universities: De Montfort, Leicester and Loughborough and with Further Education Colleges on retaining graduates. Our monthly e-bulletin goes out to over 3,000 creative enterprises . The content is aimed at businesses in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland but is received wider. Information includes workspaces, networking and workshop opportunities, funding and commissions. The bulletin is one of our most popular services, a recent survey showed 98% of those responded being happy to recommend it.
