Idea to Enterprise - women and broadband programme

A free business programme for budding businesswomen has benn launched by Leicestershire County Council’s Superfast Leicestershire project. Women can sign up for the free programme, which will run until March 2016, and offers business coaching, digital training days and advice on turning a business idea into reality.The Idea to Enterprise programme will run until March 2016 and is designed to support Leicestershire’s female entrepreneurs who are looking for advice and support on growing their business ideas. The programme includes:

  • An informal, face to face consultation to talk through a participant’s specific ideas, needs and obstacles
  • 2 telephone sessions with a professional business mentor
  • Group business coaching for a half day
  • A networking and confidence building training day
  • Financial planning and business advice
  • Up to 3 digital training days covering topics like using social media, selling over the internet, digital marketing, blogging for business or cloud computing
  • A conference day on 18 Match 2016 with inspirational talks from business women, including Women & Equalities Minister Nicky Morgan MP, seminars on a range of business topics, and advice for how to continue to find support after the programme has finished
  • Email advice and information sheets from all the training sessions on the programme
  • Peer support and networking with other business women in a participant’s local area.

Councillor Blake Pain, cabinet member for rural broadband, said: “With the Superfast Leicestershire project working to provide more than 72,000 homes and businesses with high-speed fibre broadband by the end of 2018, this free programme is aimed to support the many budding businesswomen of the county to achieve their ambitions. This programme is a great way for us to support female entrepreneurs to develop, support women in the workplace and benefit the county’s economy too.”

There are 150 spaces on the Idea to Enterprise programme, which will also kick-start informal business networks for women across the county to ensure work to support businesswomen continues after March 2016. The programme is fully-funded by a £66,700 grant from the Government Equalities Office. Superfast Leicestershire is a £28 million partnership between the county council and BT to connect more than 72,000 premises across Leicestershire to fibre broadband by 2018.
